DIG for Monday the 22nd of May……the Word will always outlast gold and treasure…..1 Peter 1 v 25

While watching a tv program on iplayer this afternoon I thought about the difference between gold (or treasure) and the Word of God.

In this program some treasure and a Bible were hidden in the ground from robbers over a thousand years ago.

When the treasure was dug up years later by a metal detectorist the Bible had rotted away; the gold had survived but the Bible had not.

This of course is the opposite of what will happen according to God’s Word.

His Word will endure forever and will never ‘rot’ away (1 Peter 1 v 25).

We know we can never take any treasure in terms of money or gold with us when we leave this earth, but we will always have the Word of the Lord.

Even now I have to be carefully about ‘chasing after treasure’ when I should be digging up truths in the Word.

I think we all need to be aware of this at times!

The Word is what will change our lives and it is the Word that will endure long after our money, gold and treasures have gone.

The Word is the really valuable thing in our lives even though at times we think it is our natural resources.

Seeing the gold being uncovered in this program while the Word had rotted away really brought home to me how the things of God are opposite to the things of this world.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for your Word, and thank you that it will endure for ever”.

1 Peter 1 v 25…..But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you
