DIG for Saturday the 3rd of June…..don’t step out of His shadow, even for a short time…..Psalm 91 v 1

One of the things that I am not keen on is being too long in the sun.

If I can sit in the shade I would rather do that than ‘sun worship’.

It has even been known for my wife and I to walk down a street on opposite sides, so that she can be in the sun and I can be in the shade!

But even Nunsy tries to find shade when it is just too hot.

The shade is a place of comfort and safety, away from the harmful rays of the sun.

This is the picture that I see when I read Psalm 19 v 1.

I can see myself under the shadow of the Almighty, being protecting from the scorching sun trying to burn me.

If I come out from under His shadow I am in danger from the harmful rays of the sun.

The choice is mine in this picture, to stay in the shadow or walk off, away from the Lord, and into the sun.

Science is telling us that even a small amount of sun can be harmful to our skin.

We may think it is fun and we may feel happy, but in the long run we could see permanent damage.

The same is true of leaving the protection of the Lord for a short time; whatever we are doing may seem like fun and we may think we are happy but in the long run it is not good for us.

The only place of safety and security is with the Lord at all times, in the shadow of the Almighty.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that you have provided a place of safety and security for me, in your shadow and in your presence”.

DIG for Friday the 2nd of June…..we dwell not pop in now and again…..Psalm 91 v 1

As I wrote yesterday this passage is a Psalm of protection that we can speak over ourselves.

However there are also things we need to do to “get into line” with what this verse says.

Now, I am not talking about rules and regulations (or religions works). But there are certain ‘laws’ that are in place in the world that we need to adhere to.

Take for instance some guidance in verse 1 of the Psalm.

The Word says we should dwell in the secret place of the most High; this really means we should dwell in God and in the things of God.

This verse does not say ‘visit’ and it does not say’ pop in now and again’.

It does not say seek God in your ‘quiet time’ in the morning and/or ‘quiet time’ in the evening.

The verse says dwell, which means to stay permanently.

The Hebrew word for dwell literally means to sit down and implies the requirement to stay.

Flitting in and out of time with God is not enough to rest in His shadow of protection.

We know that in human relationships we need to have quality time with a person to really get to know them and to benefit from our relationship.

Why would we think this is different with God?

I for one am going to try and extend my time with the Lord, try some dwelling in the future; what about you?

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that I can boldly approach your throne and come into your presence any time I want”.
