As with all things in the Christian life, it is our choice to ‘opt in’ to the goodness of Psalm 91.
We can always ignore it and not take part in this amazing mercy, protection and safety that the Lord provides.
I would advise that we do of course!
And we also need to recognise the power of our words in this context.
The Psalmist wrote, “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust” (Psalm 91 v 2)
This is a statement all about choice.
He chose to trust the Lord.
He chose to recognise the Lord as his God.
He chose to speak out the truth that He is his refuge and fortress.
And these are things we need to do.
There is no point in standing outside a fortress when the enemy are coming; you need to make the choice to get inside.
We must trust the Lord and recognise His as God; we are not God after all.
We must then speak out that He is our refuge and fortress, and actively seek Him out, not just in trouble, but especially in times of trouble.
He will be our place of safety and refuge if we let Him be.
Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that you can be and want to be my refuge and my fortress, thank you for this wonderful provision”.
Psalm 91 v 2….. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust
