DIG for Monday the 9th of October…..don’t panic, don’t panic…..John 14 v 1

If you are British and of a certain age you may well remember the BBC comedy “Dad’s Army”.

There was one soldier who could not cope with stressful situations, he just went around shouting “Don’t panic, don’t panic”, even though he was!

He let his emotions take over and he could not function properly.

Do you know that you can control your emotions, indeed as a Christian you should be?

On the night before His crucifixion Jesus spent time with His disciples giving them some final guidance (John 14, 15 and 16).

The first thing He says to them is to not let their heart be troubled (John 14 v 1).

He tells them to choose (to make a conscious decision) to keep control of their emotions.

Jesus would not direct them to do this if they could not; and He is saying the same to you today.

If you are in or are entering into a stressful situation the first thing you need to do is keep control of your emotions.

But this will be too hard you may be saying!

Well, Jesus was telling this to His disciple the night before they would watch Him die on a cross.

They would think all was lost and they would even fear for their own lives, yet He still told them to keep their emotions under control.

We see of course that they did not listen to this advice, but we have hindsight and have the Word to show us that we can do it!

So whatever you are enduring today the Lord is asking you to not let your heart be troubled, He is asking you to keep control of your emotions.

You can do it!

Speak this out today…..”Thank you lord that my emotions should not be controlling me, thank you that I can and will control my emotions”.

John 14 v 1…..Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me
