DIG for Wednesday the 6th of January…..is it not too difficult to rejoice evermore and rejoice always…..1 Thessalonians 5 v 16

Rejoice evermore and rejoice always are quite difficult things to do in our world today, yet this is what the Bible says (1 Thessalonians 5 v 16, Philippians 4 v 4 and 2 Corinthians 6 v 10).

Or rather it would be difficult to do if we listened to what the world is saying.

ISIS is on the march, North Korea has a hydrogen bomb and lots of snow is coming to make the flooding worse; this is what the news stations are saying today here in Scotland.

How can we rejoice with all this bad news pouring into our ears and minds?

Well, I have a piece of advice to help you with this bad news.

Stop listening to it!

Read the Word instead!

The Word of God is full of good news about your salvation, your eternal destiny, your relationship with Father God through Jesus, to name but a few.

If we focus on the goodness in the Word and on the goodness of God we can and will rejoice.

If we listen to the doom and gloom merchants (like the BBC) we will only be able to worry and take fright, and rejoicing will not be an option.

I saw a great cartoon the other day where the announcer on the TV was screaming out, “what can we do about the fear of terrorism”.

The man watching the TV reached forward and switched it off.

Make a good decision tonight and let God speak to you instead of the world.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the good news held with your Word and thank you for the freedom I have to read your Word”.

1 Thessalonians 5 v 16…..Rejoice evermore
