DIG for Wednesday the 5th of August…..read, heed and observe; this is the process of Bible study…..Revelation 1 v 3

The Book of Revelation is a book I’m not in very often, but I was looking at the start this morning and really liked the “model” of Bible study that is advocated there.

John wrote about the “record of the Word of God” (verse 2) and about “things written” (verse 3); this is talking about the Bible or Word of God and not just about this prophecy in Revelation.

He says that in order to be blessed we need to read, hear and keep this Word (Revelation 1 v 3).

This is the model of study that we should use and it will result in us being blessed.

To read literally means to know again, but it is about reading the Word of God with the extension of a certain amount of understanding.

To hear is all about understanding; it means to give an audience to, to take heed and to understand.

It is also interesting that John implies that this is a collective task, saying “they that hear”. I would suggest that it is easier understanding the Bible with others to help you.

To keep means to watch or guard, to keep from escaping. This talks to me of the Word and our understanding of it being valued and then adhered to.

So we are not just to read the Word of God; that is just the start.

We are to read it, understand it and adhere it, and then we will be blessed.

You could say we are to find out what it says, understand what it says and then do what it says.

That sounds like a good model to me.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for your Word and thank you for the truths within that can change my life for the better”.

Revelation 1 v 3…..Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written there-in: for the time is at hand
