DIG for Thursday the 16th of July…..forgiveness of sin is His job not yours…..Psalm 103 v 12

I love our Bible study on a Thursday evening, it is a great source of material for my DIGs.

Last night we were talking about how we have had our transgressions removed by the finished work of Jesus Christ (Psalm 103 v 12).

Yet there are still many believers living under the New Covenant who think they can “remove” their own transgressions through confession; or at least they try to.

There is a doctrine based upon 1 John 1 v 9 that says a believer should confess their sin on a continual basis in order to be forgiven.

This is nonsense of course, a doctrine based upon the traditions of man and not upon the Bible.

Psalm 103 v 12 looks into the future to a time when the sins of man would be removed so that man could live a life of blessing and abundance.

We are fortunate to live in that time; we live not under law but under the new covenant.

There is nothing we can do to receive forgiveness; this was bestowed upon all man at the cross as Jesus’ blood was shed (Ephesians 1 v 7 and Colossians 1 v 14).

This does not mean of course that all men are saved even though they are forgiven, a man has to make the choice to trust and put his faith in Jesus for his salvation.

If you read Psalm 103 v 12 very clearly you will see that we cannot remove sin and receive forgiveness for ourselves.

This verse says that, “he removed our transgressions”.

Only Jesus can deal with sin and He already has done )1 John 2 v 2); He has dealt with all sin and you can do nothing in terms of forgiveness through confession.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that I have already been forgiven through the blood of Jesus Christ”.

Psalm 103 v 12…..As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us

DIG for Thursday the 19th of February…..has He paid for all sin or has He not…..1 John 2 v 2

So the doom and gloom merchants are at it again!

I read a “prophecy” this morning that God is sending an asteroid this year to crash into the Atlantic and cause a Tsunami and earthquake to punish the USA, killing over 40 million people.

The USA is to be punished by God because of the sins of the church.

Now for a start I thought that prophecy was meant to be encouraging, edifying and exhorting!

And Biblical truths can tell us that this type of “prophecy” is actually nonsense.

My Bible says that Jesus has already paid for all the sin of every person in the world (1 John 2 v 2).

My Bible says that forgiveness has flowed upon all mankind as the blood of Jesus flowed on the cross at Calvary (Ephesians 1 v 7 and Colossians 1 v 14).

My Bible says that a day would come when God would remove the sin from His people and remember those sins no longer (Psalm 103 v 12 and Isaiah 43 v 25).

This was accomplished at the cross of Christ so we now live in those days, we live under grace and not under law (Romans 6 v 14 and 15 and Hebrews 10 v 17).

We live in a time when sin has already been dealt with (Hebrews 10 v 12 to 14).

If God were to now punish the USA because of sin He would be saying that the finished work of Jesus Christ was not actually enough, it would be the “not quite” finished work.

This type of “prophecy” does nothing but spread fear and anxiety and is not Biblical.

What are you going to believe; Biblical truth or a so-called prophet?

I’ll leave the choice up to you.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord that my sin and the sin of the whole world was dealt with through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross”.

1 John 2 v 2…..And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world

DIG for Friday the 13th of February…..unconditional forgiveness, there can be no argument…..Ephesians 1 v 7

In my message on Sunday I spoke about believers getting offended when I preached about unconditional forgiveness, mainly due to the fact that they did not love and understand the Word of God.

There are prophecies in the Old Testament telling us of a day when our sins will be forgiven (Psalm 103 v 12, Isaiah 43 v 25 and Isaiah 38 v 17).

In the Gospels we see Jesus displaying the forgiveness that comes from Father God (with the woman at the well and the woman taken in adultery for example).

At the crucifixion we see Jesus displaying forgiveness towards the thief who recognises Him as Lord (Luke 23 v 42 and 43).

In the epistles we see that forgiveness has been given through the blood of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1 v 7 and Colossians 1 v 14).

We also see that Jesus has paid for all the sins of the whole world (1 John 2 v 2) therefore brought forgiveness and reconciliation to all (2 Corinthians 5 v 18 and 19).

In the epistles we also read that the flow of forgiveness came first from God so that we could then forgive others (Ephesians 4 v 32 and Colossians 3 v 13).

In Hebrews we read that Jesus dealt with all our sins and that God has chosen to remember them no more (Hebrews 1 v 3, 8 v 12 and 10 v 17).

The Old Testament prophesied what Jesus would do, the Gospels shows Him doing it and the New Testament confirms what He has done; sin has been dealt with and unconditional forgiveness has been showered upon all men.

Unfortunately all men do not receive the blessings and benefits of forgiveness, this only comes through salvation once a man has trusted and believed upon Jesus and His finished work.

But Scripture is very clear; forgiveness from God is unconditional for all men.

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the finished work of Jesus Christ and thank you for your unconditional forgiveness”.

Ephesians 1 v 7…..In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace

DIG for Saturday the 3rd of May…..do you really know how far your sins have been removed from you…..Psalm 103 v 12

I was meaning to carry on writing about Psalm 100 in this DIG however when I opened my Bible I saw Psalm 103 v 12 and I was attracted towards it.

Psalm 103 is another wonderful passage of scripture; an amazing prophecy of what life would be like for us living under the new covenant.

We would be forgiven for all our sins and healed of all our diseases (Psalm 103 v 3).

We would be redeemed from destruction and have mercy poured upon us (Psalm 103 v 4).

We would not be dealt with according to our sin or even rewarded according to our sin (Psalm 103 v 10).

We are told that the Lord loves us as high as the heaven is above the earth, and that is a long way (Psalm 103 v 11).

We are also told (and this is my favourite part) that the Lord will remove our sin away from us as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103 v 12).

Do you know that if you are standing on the equator and start walking east you will never ever start going west?

If from the same point you start walking north you will eventually start walking south (once you come to the North Pole).

It is amazing that a person who knew nothing about the geography of the earth, or indeed that the earth was round, could use this picture of east and west.

What David is actually saying (inspired of course by the Holy Sprit) is that your sin is now so far away from that the distance cannot be imagined or measured; it is in fact an infinite distance away from you.

Sin is no longer an issue for God as He has removed it so far away from you.

That is good news, that is the almost too good to be true good news, but that is the truth under grace and under the new covenant.

Jesus, through His perfect finished work, has already paid for all your sin, and indeed for the sin of every single person in the whole world (1 John 2 v 2).

Through His finished work you have already been reconciled, forgiven, accepted, and as a gift of grace through faith made righteous.

Your sin, in the eyes of the Lord, is gone and He does not even remember it any more (Hebrews 10 v 17).

Yes indeed that is the good news!

Speak this out today…..”Thank you Lord for the finished work of Jesus Christ and thank you for the new covenant”.
