DIG for Wednesday the 3rd of February…..yes, even in a grace church there is need for repentance…..Romans 2 v 4

But surely Vic if I am living under grace I don’t have to ask God for forgiveness, begging and pleading for Him to help me?

A question like this shows me clearly a lack on understanding about repentance.

Repentance is not about feeling sorry, weeping, ripping apart your clothes and asking for forgiveness.

That is what it may have looked like in the Old Testament but that is not what it means under the New Covenant.

The Greek for repentance shows us this is about the attitude of our mind; it is about changing our minds and thus changing direction.

And repentance is a process that believers need to go through; repentance is not about all about your initial salvation experience.

In His letter to the Romans Paul says it is the goodness of God that leads THEE to repentance, and in this letter he is writing to born again believers (Romans 2 v 4).

So repentance is an on going process for the believer and it is therefore an on going process for you.

Paul even tells you how to continue in repentance, or what you need to repent (or change your mind and direction).

It is knowledge of the goodness of God that will lead you to repent.

It is knowledge of the goodness of God that will lead you to change your mind and therefore change the direction of your life.

I encourage you to repent today; I encourage you to get into the Word to meditate upon the goodness of God, in order to change your mind and change the direction of your life.

Speak this out today…..””Thank you Lord that you are a good God and that you will always be a good God”.

Romans 2 v 4…..Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
