One of my favourite verses to write about and preach on in the run up to Christmas is Isaiah 9 v 6.
Here we are given a description of Jesus, of the Messiah Who was yet to come.
It is not the names in the second half of the verse that really excite me; it is the description of his humanity and Deity at the start that I really love.
In this short sentence we have a powerful description of Jesus as fully man yet fully God.
As a man, just like the rest of us, He had to be born physically.
As a child He had to be born.
But as God Jesus has always been in existence and has always been with God the Father.
As a unique and integral part of the Godhead Jesus was God and was the Son of God.
When He came to earth in flesh He was given by God; He was sent on a mission of reconciliation from God.
Hence as a son He was given; He was not born or created as God’s Son, He was given.
Jesus was fully God and fully man and this verse highlights this awesome truth.
What a great picture of His love for us, that God would send His Son to be born a man and walk among us.
What a loving God!
Speak this out today…..”Thank You Lord for Jesus and thank You that He dwelt among us, saving us from our sin”.
Isaiah 9 v 6…..For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace
